Miami-Dade County Approval Standards for Impact Windows
The gold standard for testing and approval of hurricane or impact windows and doors is the Miami-Dade County code. Windows that carry Miami-Dade County approval are made with laminated glass and have been tested to the most stringent air, water and structural requirements. They have also been subjected to longer sustained wind load testing than the testing standard products undergo. It is not easy to have windows pass Miami-Dade County testing, and it's a long process.
HOW WINDOWS ARE TESTED
Miami-Dade County Testing Explained
Tyson Schwartz of Soft-Lite Gorell Windows & Doors explains what Miami-Dade County impact testing is and what it means for windows to be approved.
RECEIVING MIAMI-DADE APPROVAL
The objective of Miami-Dade County testing is to determine if the windows and laminated glass used in them can withstand violent weather. Laminated glass will crack, but nothing in a storm should ever actually get through the glass and into your home.
When—and if—a product achieves Miami-Dade County approval, it can be used pretty much anywhere, even right on the coast and, of course, in Miami-Dade County, FL.
